Plumeria Propagation Techniques:
I love Plumerias for various reasons, one the way it branches, it often reminds me the antlers of a deer. Secondly the way foliage is arranged, lastly for slightly fragrant big beautiful flowers it has to offer🤩😍!!!!
I did my research and came to know that they can be propagated through stem cuttings....
1) Cut a plumeria stem using a clean knife/cutter, better if it's sterilized(use rubbing alcohol), else it would lead to infections and further root rot.
2) Remove all leaves except 3/4 on tip of the stem. I had read that plant will be fine even with all leaves removed. Anyway I had left a few leaves on the cuttings to be on the safer side.
3) Leave stem cuttings in shade for a week, let it callus.
4) After a week, prepare well draining soil mix, dip the cuttings in rooting hormone solution (totally optional) before planting.
5) Water the cuttings. Dip fingers one inch deep into soil, if it's not sticky then the soil is dry, hence water. Frequent watering can rot the cuttings.
Tips that helped me :
* Water less frequently.
* Proper callus should be formed. Cuttings have toxic sap coming out and it should be completely dried.
* Small leaves growing into bigger ones is a sign that helped me understand that the cuttings were healthy.
* Use sand more in soil mix to make it well draining.
* Keep it in bright indirect light for one/two months before keeping in bright direct sunlight.
* Mature Plumerias love direct sun for 6 hrs min.
* Don't uproot the cuttings like I did😂. Thats the last and worst thing you can do. I had four of my cuttings in the same pot (my bad). Inorder to separate them, I had to uproot it.
