MONSOON CARE TIPS FOR INDOOR PLANTS
Parenthood is not easy, be it our children or plants we always need to be an extra step ahead to protect them and keep them safe.
With Monsoon hitting the surface, it’s fun and somewhat relaxing to say goodbye to the scorching heat of summer. But remember every season brings both good and challenges with them. And it is our responsibility to restore goodness of the weather and eliminate its risks to our plants. This Monsoon learn how to take an extra care of your potted houseplants.
People often seek answers for whether or not to keep their houseplants outdoors during rain? Or How much water a plant requires? How much to fertilize?
Well, we have all your answers here. Let’s read about some monsoon care tips for your Indoor Plants.
Care Tips #1 Bring your Plants Out
Bring your houseplants to a spot where your pots get sufficient water but not excess water. After all, you want your plants to receive all those extra nutrients. Also you will be glad to know that rainwater dissolves the salts and other minerals from the tap water, which remain in the soil of your plants after regular watering. And rain water which is naturally distilled water helps flush these minerals out of the soil. In a way you can also look at it as detox of your container soil.
Also a single rain gives your plants a much-needed bath that will wash off dust and dirt from the leaves of your plants.
Care Tip #2 Make sure your pots have good drainage
This is a very important fact that will let your plant live for ages if your houseplant has a well drainage pot. If it is going to rain for longer days your plant roots shouldn’t drown in its own soil and water and die. Root rot is common in monsoon due to excess rain water so be careful with watering. A pot with drainage holes will let the extra water pass through and absorb only what’s needed.
Care Tip #3 Watering plants during rainy season
During Monsoon plants requires less watering. The moist and humid air keeps them happy for good couple of days without actual watering from the can. Do the finger test of the soil if it still feels wet do not water. Another reason is also the rain brings down the temperature significantly and the soil at the bottom of your pot remains wet for a longer period.
Care Tip #4 Invitation to bugs & pests
With Monsoon come many uninvited bugs, fungi and mites that are ready to attack on your plants anytime. Keep an eye; look for the signs in the soil as well as on the leaves. Treat them as soon as possible with necessary steps. Best and effective way to fight bugs and mites is a solution of neem oil, some liquid soap dissolved in water in a ratio of 1:1:100. Spray it whenever you see those little guys chomping of the leaves of your houseplants.
Care Tip #5 Fertilizing your plants
Your plants are happy and grow tremendously during monsoon. Alone rain water cannot do the entire miracle for a growing plant. But it is also recommended to use some organic slow realising fertilizer for your plants these days. Like banana peel fertilizer, rice water, sea weed solution or any other compost made at home. They all can do wonders to your plants in monsoon.
Care Tip #6 Strong winds and rainwater damages
Long wet periods increases the growth of your plants but also weakens the plant due to too much of water. Or even a strong wind may hamper or bend your plants. So check and see if any of your plants need a bit of support. You can tie stick with the stem and correct or support them for further growth.
