Holy Basil
The sacred plant which is worshipped in every Indian household, commonly known as tulsi in the Hindi language. It is a inseparable part of religious legacy and a very potent medicinal herb as well.

The first thing which comes to our mind after hearing the word TULSI is its holistic approach and the medicinal properties. In Ayurveda it is known as "The queen of herbs" and "Mother medicine of the nature".

Tulsi is a tonic for the body, mind and spirit that gives solution to many modern health problems. Daily consumption prevents diseases and it is used in treating asthma, diarrhea , arthritis, fever,cough, allergies,skin diseases,vomiting etc. The medicinal properties of tulsi are numerous it is anti-microbial,anti-inflammatory,anti-pyretic,mosquito-repellent,anti-tussive,anti-stress any many many more .

There are total 18 species of tulsi. 4 most popular species of holy tulsi are:
Rama tulsi , Krishna tulsi , Amrita tulsi , Vana tulsi

CARE : Holy basil grows typically in tropical and subtropical climates .It requires partial to full sunlight and well draining soil to prosper well. It won't tolerate being too dry or waterlogged.

PROPAGATION :

Can be grown from the seeds; cover the seeds lightly with the soil because they need light to grow. Keep the pot with seeds in a place where there is adequate sunlight . Provide the necessary water and heat to seeds to sprout.

It can also be grown from a cutting, cut atleast 4 inch stem right beneath the leaf node, pluck the bottom leaves off the stem and keep the cutting into water filled container,when the root cuttings have reached 2 inch in length it is ready to get potted into the soil.

SIDE EFFECTS : Interestingly there are no side effects as reported after the clinical trials irrespective of dose or formulation.

It is not recommended for the women who are trying to conceive or are pregnant as it is Known to cause uterine-contractions and it slows down the coagulation so it is also contraindicated.
