The Golden Pothos or Money plant is the most common and long lived Indoor plant. People love to grow this plant throughout the world for numerous reasons. The very famous Indian belief is it brings luck & prosperity. Well we aren’t certain about that but there are more reasons why people love to grow them at home.
Firstly they are AIR-PURIFYING PLANTS and remove harmful toxins from the air. Secondly, because of their stunning heart shaped and yellow- golden veined print on its leaf. And thirdly, because it easy-to-care- houseplant.
Popular by the name Devil’s Ivy this vine makes it perfect for hanging baskets, or climb them up a to wall or metal railings. So, if you are a beginner plant parent then this one is perfect to start with. Here are some tips for you to know before you fetch one for your home sweet home.
Light: Your favourite Money Plant enjoys a well lit room with no direct sunlight. But it can also adapts to low lighting conditions if needed. As because they are tropical plants they love high humidity. Given a right condition they can grow madly and climb upto 2-3 meters.
Watering: A Pothos can handle a bit of neglect when it comes to watering. And it prefers to be watered after the top layer of soil has dried out. Over watering can simply kill this plant. So make sure the roots should not stand in the water for long.
Soil: A Pothos needs a light and good drainage soil and a pot with a hole. The best pots are the terracotta pots but if you are using a plastic or a ceramic pot then let the soil dry out before next watering.
Hydroponics: It is very easy to grow you Golden Pothos with cutting in water. You just need to cut their stems along with their aerial roots and leave it in the water to grow. Honestly I have them everywhere in my house planted in the empty kitchen bottles. Try out.
Despite being a very popular houseplant you should know that they are mildly toxic. And ingestion of Pothos can cause mild inflammation and a burning sensation in the mouth and throat.
And this is why it should be grown with caution around curious pets and small children.
